Description:
Francis of Assisi and Power
Jacques Dalarun
This book was first published in French as Francois d'Assise ou le pouvoir en question in the series Biliotheque du Moyen Age. It was, in the author's own words, the third volume of Jacques Dalarun's Franciscan trilogy. After publishing The Misadventure of Francis of Assisi in 2002, and Francis of Assisi and the Feminine in 2006, Franciscan Institute Publications now has the pleasure to publish the third title in the trilogy, Francis of Assisi and Power. In this provocative presentation, it is not the question of poverty that holds center stage as the cause of the controversies within the early Franciscan fraternity. Rather, paradoxically, it is the question of Francis's humility. Indeed, our author contends that the turmoil that arose over the question of power and authority in the Order after the death of Francis is actually rooted in Francis's own struggles with the very same question and the fact that he never resolved it during his own lifetime, neither within himself nor within the Order that he founded. Francis of Assisi and the Feminine
Jacques Dalarun
This book is an English translation of Francesco: un passagio. Donna e donne negli scritti e nelle leggende di Francesco d'Assisi. Jacques Dalarun delivers a tight analysis of Francis and his biographers that, in any way whatsoever, touch on aspects and instances of his attitude towards women and femininity, or even better, use categories that can be defined as feminine. Thus he succeeds in grasping, plumbing the depths of, and finding new ways of expressing the fundamental dimension of Francis's experience accurately. ISBN: 978-1-57659-139-0
The Misadventure of Francis of Assisi
Jacques Dalarun
An English translation by Edward Hagman, OFM, Cap., of Jacques Dalarun's La malaventura di Francesco d'Assisi: per un uso storico delle leggende francescane (2002). In a tone that is profoundly personal and to the point, Dalarun offers to serve as a methodological guide in the renewed interest in the famous Franciscan Question: how best to read, interpret and relate to the early biographies to the historical Francis.
